When you move a gift to a new campaign, the amount of the gift will be removed from the original campaign and added to the totals of the new campaign. If the new campaign is completed, the totals may not update immediately, but a live campaign should update within 20 minutes.
Matches and challenges on both campaigns will not change from a move- any dollars the gift unlocked on the original campaign will remain unlocked and moving a gift to a new campaign will not active matches or challenges after being moved. Changes to matches and challenges must be done manually.
Moving recurring gifts between campaigns
When you move a recurring gift, the entire subscription is transferred in one operation. Selecting a new campaign from the "Move to different campaign" dropdown on an individual donation page moves the parent contribution along with all associated installment records—both past and future—ensuring the subscription remains intact.
What moves and how reporting changes
- The parent contribution and all installment records are moved to the new campaign.
- After the move, these records reflect the new campaign in all reporting and gift lists.
- The original campaign's totals decrease by the full subscription value, while the new campaign's totals increase accordingly.
- The entire move is executed as a single transaction to avoid partial moves or orphaned records.
Where to find the control
- Navigate to your donations management area.
- Open the individual gift page by clicking the donation ID.
- Use the "Move to different campaign" dropdown to select the new campaign.
Notes
- No additional steps are required to move future installments; they are transferred automatically with the initial move.
Prevent double-counting when match/challenge sponsors also give
If a match or challenge sponsor also donates personally to the same campaign, their personal gift may inadvertently count toward match or challenge progress. To avoid double-counting, move the sponsor’s personal gift out of the campaign that hosts their match or challenge.
Recommended approach:
- The sponsor’s personal gift remains on their record and processes normally but will no longer contribute to the campaign’s total.
How to update a sponsor’s personal donation:
- In your admin dashboard, go to Online Giving → Manage Gifts.
- Identify sponsors who made a personal gift to the same campaign hosting their match or challenge
- Open the individual gift page by clicking the donation ID and use the "Move to different campaign" dropdown to select a different campaign.
- Note that moving the gift will remove any associated matched gift records from the original campaign.
After moving the gift:
- The donation continues to process as usual, but it no longer adds to the original campaign’s total.
- Any match-related records tied to the original campaign are removed.
