Gift Counting is beta. As of November 3, 2026, initial gift-based metrics are in use by beta partners. Availability for every school and gift-based coverage of every campaign element are not confirmed. A roadmap target is not an activation date.
Set a gift-count goal where the beta option is available
- Open Online Giving → Campaigns → select the campaign → Campaign Setup → Basics.
- Under Campaign goal, choose Number of Gifts if it is offered.
- Enter a positive whole number for the goal, then click Update Campaign.
- Review the saved goal and the supported campaign metrics. When creating an eligible campaign, the creation form may also offer Number of Gifts and Gift goal.
The Details → Basics interface may still show only Dollars raised and Number of donors. A different menu or role cannot create beta access. If Number of Gifts is absent, ask GiveCampus to confirm the school's beta access and whether this campaign's counting/tiering setup is compatible. Older tiered parent/child campaign structures have restrictions; do not assume all tiered setups support the goal.
Superadmin, Fundraising Superadmin, Advanced Campaign Admin, Basic Campaign Admin and Crowdfunding Admin include campaign creation and editing, within assigned access. Communications Admin can edit campaign basics but does not include creating a campaign. Staff roles are fixed; beta eligibility is separate from role access.
How does a gift count differ from a donor count?
In the inspected gift-counting workflow:
- Multiple gifts from the same donor can count separately; this is not a unique-donor metric.
- A gift split into two positive designation allocations counts as two gifts. For example, $50 to one fund and $50 to another is two gift allocations, even if paid together. Positive allocations are counted separately even if they use the same fund.
- A positive undesignated remainder can count separately; a wholly undesignated eligible contribution counts once.
- Joint donors and donor-covered processing fees do not add extra gifts to this counter.
- Recurring donation/pledge commitments and their installment payments are not counted as duplicate gifts: installments do not add a new count for every charge in this workflow. Use payment reporting when you need actual processed-payment counts.
- Eligible offline gift records and released match/challenge contributions are included through their supported counting rules. A promised or unreleased challenge amount is not automatically an additional counted gift.
Do not use the number of CSV rows as the campaign gift count. A report can repeat gift-level information across designation or fee rows and can contain a different population from the campaign metric.
Important beta limits
An eligible active campaign can use the available gift-goal controls, but a completed campaign cannot switch to or from the Gifts goal type. Normal state and validation restrictions still apply.
The administrator campaign list calculates gift-goal progress from the gift count divided by the goal and rounds down to a whole percentage. This does not prove every public progress bar, leaderboard, tier or report has completed gift-based support. If displays differ, identify the exact campaign and screen for Support to review the supported beta behavior.
Gift Counting changes the metric used for supported campaign goals; it does not change what the donor paid or make distinct gifts into distinct people. Do not promise complete campaign metric coverage or a release date based on the beta.
