Advocate Leaderboards help you recognize your advocates and build friendly competition on your campaign page. Compare the gifts and dollars attributed to each advocate, choose who appears, and link supporters to published Advocate Pages.
For example, an athletics campaign can highlight its top advocates by dollars raised, while a giving day can recognize the advocates who generate the most gifts.
Create an Advocate Leaderboard
- Open your campaign settings and go to Motivation & Sharing > Leaderboards > Manage Custom Leaderboards.
- Click Add Leaderboard.
- In Basics, enter a Leaderboard Name and choose Advocate as the Leaderboard Type.
- Choose your Header Color and Header Text Color. You can also add Help Text, which appears below the leaderboard name.
- Under Row Configuration, enter a Row Header Label, such as “Advocate,” and choose a Default Row Count of 10, 25, 50, or 100 rows per page.
- Choose a Row Sort Order. You can rank by dollars raised, gift count, or name, in ascending or descending order. The builder currently labels the gift-count options Donor Count; for an Advocate Leaderboard, these sort the number of attributed gifts, and the public column is labeled Gifts. Use Row Display Name for alphabetical sorting.
- Choose which advocates to include, as described below.
- Click Save Leaderboard. On the Custom Leaderboards list, click Publish when you are ready for visitors to see it.
- Open the public campaign page and check the leaderboard's name, rows, and sort order.
Choose which advocates appear
If your builder shows an Advocates dropdown, it offers two options:
- All Active Advocates: Automatically includes active advocates on the campaign and updates the list as advocates become active or are dismissed. You do not need to add rows individually.
- Select Advocates: Includes only the advocates you choose. Use this for a selected group or a competition with a fixed list of participants.
If that dropdown is not available, use Add Rows to select advocates manually.
Add advocates manually
- Click Add Rows in the leaderboard builder.
- Under Available Advocates, search for an advocate and click the plus icon to add them. You can also click Select All to add everyone in the currently displayed, filtered list.
- If you want to include someone who has not yet recorded activity, click Include advocates with no recorded activity. Advocates do not need to have generated a gift before you select them.
- Review your selections and click Save Rows.
- Click Save Leaderboard.
Select All is a one-time selection. It does not automatically add advocates who join later. Return to Modify to add more advocates, or use All Active Advocates if that option is available. Dismissed advocates do not appear on the public leaderboard.
Understand the results
- Gifts: The number of online gifts attributed to the advocate. If one donor makes multiple attributed gifts, each gift counts; this is not a unique-donor count.
- Dollars raised: The amount generated by those attributed gifts. These figures use the same attributed-gift totals as the campaign's Advocates section. They are not the advocate's combined impact from gifts, matches, and challenges.
- Offline gifts: Offline gifts are not attributed to advocates and are not included.
- Advocate names: An advocate's name links to their Advocate Page when they have a published, publicly available page. Otherwise, the name appears as text. A published Advocate Page is not required to be listed on the leaderboard.
Advocate Leaderboards do not support individual goals, percentage-to-goal columns, ranking by clicks, or hiding the dollars-raised column. Goal settings are hidden when you choose the Advocate type.
Manage visibility
Use Modify in the Custom Leaderboards list to update an existing leaderboard. Saving a new leaderboard leaves it in Draft until you click Publish.
You can Unpublish and Publish a leaderboard at any time, including after the campaign ends. Unpublishing does not delete it or stop qualifying gifts from counting. When you republish, the results include qualifying gifts received while it was unpublished.
Admins cannot view the leaderboard standings privately while it is unpublished. You can manage its settings in the backend, but the leaderboard itself is viewed on the public campaign page when published. Publishing it to check results also makes it visible to visitors.
Frequently asked questions
Why is my published leaderboard missing from the campaign page?
Confirm that it is published in Manage Custom Leaderboards and that Custom Leaderboards is selected under Motivation & Sharing > Leaderboards. Then go to Campaign Setup > Images & Display > Page Layout and check that the Donors section is visible using its eye icon. This section may have been renamed on your campaign.
Why can't I find an advocate to add?
First confirm that the person is in the campaign's Advocates table. In the leaderboard's row picker, clear any search filter and select Include advocates with no recorded activity if needed. If the campaign has no advocates, add them before configuring a manually selected leaderboard. If the builder displays a message that there are too many advocates to configure there, contact support@givecampus.com for assistance.
How quickly do changes appear?
Updates are not instant. On a live campaign, allow about a minute for saved display changes to appear and about 5–6 minutes for new attributed gifts to appear in advocate totals. Large leaderboard changes can take longer. Preview pages usually refresh within seconds; completed campaign pages may take up to 24 hours to refresh. Refresh the public page after allowing time for the update.
Why does an advocate show $0 and 0 gifts?
An advocate can be on your leaderboard before generating an attributed gift. Their totals remain zero until a gift is attributed to them and the totals refresh. Being active can reflect other advocacy activity, such as sharing a link; it does not necessarily mean they have generated a gift.
Can I compare class years or funds instead?
Yes. Choose an Affiliation or Designation leaderboard for those comparisons. See Custom Leaderboards for Campaigns for those setup steps.
