Monthly unique donors versus dashboard donation chart

The dashboard offers Dollars Processed and Donations Processed fiscal-year charts, not a separate monthly distinct-person chart. Its donation count deduplicates normalized payer-email-plus-name combinations within each day and product, then adds those daily/product counts into monthly totals. A person who gives on separate days or in both product groups can therefore be counted more than once in a month. Do not describe that monthly chart as monthly unique people. For a monthly unique-donor analysis, export the relevant fiscal-year gift records with the intended date and donor identity columns, group by month in the school’s timezone, and count each chosen donor identity once per month. Agree on the identity rule first—for example a verified constituent identifier where complete, with a reviewed fallback—so shared email addresses, multiple IDs, joint gifts, missing IDs, and name variations are handled deliberately. Deduplicate again across the full year if you also need annual unique donors; adding monthly unique counts does not produce annual unique donors.
