Why a browsed file appears as a link in an email

For the established (legacy) Volunteer Management portal. These steps differ from the newer Volunteer Management interface. Administrator controls require the appropriate school or volunteer-management permissions.

In the legacy Redactor editor, inserting an uploaded file creates a hyperlink in the message body. The link points to the uploaded file URL; this operation does not itself create a conventional email attachment. Its displayed text comes from the entered filename/link text, falling back to the uploaded file's name. A local-looking filename can therefore be the visible label while the actual destination is a hosted file.

Use clear link text such as “Read the reunion update” and test the delivered message's destination. Do not distribute a literal file:/// destination: that points to a file on one computer. Distinguish an editor's file-link insertion from a separate Attachments control if the active interface offers one; do not expect that all volunteer email interfaces handle files identically.
