Understand pending-gift notices triggered by offline uploads

For the established (legacy) Volunteer Management portal. Access and available actions depend on your volunteer or administrator role.

An offline gift upload can create pending-gift records when pending gifts are enabled and the target unit allows offline donors to trigger them. The backfill uses the newly created source record's creation time when deciding whether to queue notifications, so importing older giving history now can still generate notices. Do not assume an old gift date makes a fresh upload silent.

The notification process finds eligible newly created pending gifts that have not already been tracked as notified, resolves linked VMS constituents and assigned volunteers, and checks the assignment's send-pending-gift-notifications permission. An associated volunteer user is required for this path. Unit/peer-unit settings can affect the scope.

Review pending-gift settings and the appropriate role permissions before a historical upload. The general Disable VMS System Notification Emails control does not list pending_gift_notification in its suppressed message set. Do not recommend it as a blanket workaround or perform a mass role change without checking the broader effects.

To establish who actually received messages, support must inspect the relevant notification/delivery records and upload IDs.
