For the established (legacy) Volunteer Management portal. These steps differ from the newer Volunteer Management interface. Administrator controls require the appropriate school or volunteer-management permissions.
How to use
In the established /vms portal, open the assignments area (its name may be customized by the school) and inspect a constituent. Use Search Constituents if your role provides it. Follow the available request/select assignment flow rather than assuming all search results can be assigned to you.
Assignments support tags, and the portal has a request-unpair action. Use that request when you need an assignment removed and your role does not directly allow removal. Switch the active volunteer role/unit when the portal offers that control.
Troubleshooting
Constituent selectability, assignment filters, role-visible data, and the active role can change what you see. Ask your volunteer administrator to review a missing record or pending assignment request. A request is not approval.
Which interface to use
These instructions apply to the established portal. The newer school-scoped interface uses different People, role, and task flows. Use your school’s current volunteer portal link to enter the correct interface.
