Understand pledge commitments and installment payments

How to use

Where a giving form offers pledges, review the total commitment, fulfillment timing, required payment details, and installment options. A pledge commitment and a payment against it are different records. Administrators have separate Pledges payment and commitment views.

For supported pledge edits, the recurring editor distinguishes Total Pledge Amount from Number of Installments. Changing the installment count recalculates payments while preserving the total commitment. Already-paid amounts matter when calculating the remaining balance; the final payment may differ because of rounding.

Limits and troubleshooting

The school can configure future payments, whether payment information is required, available periods, minimum amount, and maximum fulfillment date. Donors do not necessarily have permission to change pledge value. Ask an authorized gift administrator if the needed control is unavailable.

Use the commitment record and actual installment/payment records to answer “how much remains?” Do not add the commitment total to all its payments when describing money received. Exact reporting definitions must be checked for the selected report.
