The recurring checkout uses an interval and duration; the pledge checkout uses an installment frequency with first and last payment dates. These controls do not confirm a general list of arbitrary individual payment dates. Selecting monthly creates a monthly schedule, not two isolated payments several months apart.

A supported subscription editor may let an authorized person change the next run date and remaining installment settings. Have support confirm the processor, gift type, remaining amount/count and resulting end date before using that approach for a two-payment commitment. Alternatively, the school can coordinate two separately authorized gifts. Neither option means that a second payment was scheduled merely because a pledge or first payment was recorded.
