A canceled recurring subscription cannot be restarted

A Canceled recurring subscription cannot be reactivated through the supported subscription state transitions. Send the donor the appropriate enabled giving-form link to create and authorize a new recurring gift with the intended amount, frequency and start behavior. Review the old subscription and recent payment attempts first to avoid overlapping charges.

A canceled subscription is different from an active gift with an expired card or a failed renewal. For those eligible gifts, use payment-method editing or Send Donor Link to Modify rather than canceling to replace the card. Cancellation stops future payments; it does not refund completed installments. Naturally Ended subscriptions have different restricted handling, so do not treat canceled, ended and card-expired as interchangeable states.
