Multiple selections versus checkbox for an event

In GiveCampus Events, available controls depend on your assigned administrator role(s), access to the event, and the interface used by your institution.

Use the multi-select custom event field type for a question allowing several choices. A single checkbox is a separate yes/no field. Native affiliation questions have affiliation-specific configuration, so identify the field type before prescribing a conversion.

Why does my multi-select event question seem to allow only one answer?

For a multi-select custom question, guests using a computer should hold Command (⌘) on a Mac or Ctrl on Windows while clicking each option they want to select. Clicking a new option without that key can replace the previous selection. A custom field already set to multi-select does not need a separate Allow Multiple setting.

To make this clear on the registration form:

1. Open Events → Events → select your event → Edit Event → Guest Information.
2. Find the question under Registration Questions or Attendee Questions and click its pencil Edit field control.
3. Add this Help Text: “To select more than one option on a computer, hold Command on a Mac or Ctrl on Windows while clicking each choice.” Save the field changes.
4. Preview the registration form and confirm that the instruction appears below the question.

When creating a new question, choose multi-select as its Field Type and enter the choices. A single checkbox is a yes/no question. Native affiliation questions use different settings; do not change an affiliation’s configuration to fix the keyboard behavior of a custom multi-select question.
