How to use
Open Online Giving → Campaigns → select the campaign → Motivation & Sharing. Use Matches & Challenges for offers, settings, featured offers, competitors, and related reporting. Use Leaderboards → Manage Custom Leaderboards to configure, order, and publish custom leaderboards. These paths apply to campaigns that offer the classic Motivation & Sharing menu; do not combine them with the separate block editor.
A per-dollar match relates an offered amount to qualifying dollars given; a per-donor match relates it to qualifying donors. Challenges depend on the configured qualifying condition. Consult the specific offer’s dates, audience/designation conditions, limits, and displayed progress when explaining eligibility.
Can I show a match or challenge on selected tiered landing pages only?
No. A match or challenge automatically appears on every tiered landing page that meets its criteria. You cannot selectively show or hide an individual match or challenge on particular tiered landing pages. There is no separate per-tier visibility setting for an individual offer.
For example, if your challenge is tied to an affiliation and counts qualifying gifts to any designation, it will appear on all tiered landing pages that meet those criteria. You cannot limit its display to a few selected tiers while continuing to count the same affiliation’s gifts across all designations.
Keep the criteria aligned with the donor’s intended match or challenge. Adding a designation restriction or changing affiliation criteria changes which gifts qualify; it is not a way to change visibility alone. Featuring or pinning an offer does not provide a separate show/hide control for each tier.
An individual leaderboard’s Publish or Unpublish control is a different feature. It does not provide a way to selectively hide a match or challenge on tiered landing pages.
Why are graduation years or leaderboard rows out of order before any gifts arrive?
When a campaign has not received any gifts, leaderboard rows can display in a random order. This can make graduation years or grades look out of sequence. The initial order does not necessarily mean the leaderboard is configured incorrectly.
First check whether the campaign has received any gifts. If it has not, wait until gifts come in and the leaderboard results refresh before troubleshooting the row order. You do not need to rename the rows just because they appear out of order before the first gifts.
After gifts have come in, check Row Sort Order if the order still differs from what you intend. The chosen sort determines whether rows are ranked by a metric or sorted by their display names; receiving gifts does not mean every leaderboard will automatically sort graduation years chronologically.
Troubleshooting
Ask for the campaign, exact offer, gift time, gift destination, and relevant donor affiliation. Do not assume every campaign gift qualifies, that a public total equals settled funds, or that the highest displayed competitor necessarily resolves every challenge type.
Availability
Winner-take-all offers have separate competitor and winner-management controls. Exact tie-breaking, contribution-counting, and settlement rules need the specific offer’s configuration and matching rules. Never invent a default rule from the feature name. Employer matching is a separate feature.
Can I hide a leaderboard and reveal the results later?
Yes. You can unpublish and republish a leaderboard at any time, including after the campaign ends. Unpublishing does not delete the leaderboard or stop it from tracking qualifying gifts. When you republish it, the standings include qualifying gifts received while it was unpublished, according to the leaderboard’s configured rules. The results are not frozen at the moment you unpublish it.
To hide the standings for the final days of a competition and reveal them afterward:
- Open Campaign Settings → Motivation & Sharing → Leaderboards → Manage Custom Leaderboards.
- Find the leaderboard and click Unpublish. It moves to Draft and is no longer displayed publicly.
- When you are ready to reveal the results, return to the same list and click Publish.
- Open the public campaign page to view the standings. Allow the results to refresh after publishing.
For a tiered landing page’s leaderboard, use that page’s Custom Leaderboards list and its Unpublish or Publish action.
Can admins see the standings while the leaderboard is unpublished?
No. There is no backend view or private preview of the unpublished leaderboard standings. Admins can still manage the leaderboard’s settings, but the leaderboard itself can only be viewed on the public page when it is published. Publishing it to check the standings also makes it visible to visitors.
Unpublishing an individual leaderboard is separate from hiding the entire Donors section. If you previously hid that section, make it visible again under Campaign Setup → Images & Display → Page Layout so the published leaderboard can appear.
