Downloading Designation Reports
quick answer
Designation reports can be downloaded as CSV files from the admin interface.
Navigate to Content and Settings > Designations to export the report.
The export includes designation name, backend identifier, GiveCampus ID, visibility status, and write-in status.

Finding which forms and campaigns use a designation
If you need to know where a particular designation is used, note that there is no single school-wide export that shows designations by form or campaign. Use the following methods to locate usage:
Search for the designation: In Content and Settings > Designations, use the search filter to locate the fund by name or backend identifier. This shows the designation record so you can check details.
Check per form: Open a giving form that might use the designation, then go to Giving Experience > Form Settings & Display and select the Designation Configuration tab. This view shows which designations are available on that form.
Check per campaign: In a campaign’s Designation Management view, use the Uses lookup to see its references. This lookup identifies campaign-specific usage such as matches, challenges, leaderboards, tiered campaign pages, and conditional email templates. Remember, it is limited to the active campaign only.
Review export limitations: The CSV file from Content and Settings > Designations includes standard attributes (name, backend identifier, GiveCampus ID, visibility status, and write‑in status) but does not list the forms or campaigns where the designation is used.
Audit gifts: To determine actual usage, build a custom report via Online Giving > Reporting > Custom Reports. Add the designation (and optionally campaign_name) column, then filter or group by the designation. This report shows which forms or campaigns have processed gifts for that designation.
For a comprehensive audit, combine these approaches: use the designation search first, then check form and campaign configurations, and finally review gift data in a custom report.
If a designation appears on a form but no gifts are recorded, the designation is set up but not actively used. Likewise, if you see gifts but cannot find the designation on an active form, consider checking archived forms and historical campaign views.
working with the exported file
Open the CSV file in Excel, Google Sheets, or another spreadsheet application
The file is named "GiveCampus-Designations.csv"
You can sort, filter, or analyze the data as required
- designation_writein — the donor's write‑in text for a single-designation gift or the first split line
- designation_writein2 — additional write‑in text for multi‑split gifts
- Build or edit your deposit‑based report and add the columns designation_writein and designation_writein2.
- Export the report to CSV and review the write‑in columns to see the donor-entered text.
- Do not rely on the standard designation column when you need donor‑provided fund names.
- Reconciling deposit lines that reference an "Other" or ad‑hoc fund: check the write‑in columns for the donor’s input.
- Reporting on one‑off fund names: export and filter the write‑in columns to identify these entries.
How write‑in designation text appears in deposit‑based reports
Donor-entered write‑in fund names are stored separately from the standard designation field. To capture the exact text a donor types, add the write‑in columns to your deposit‑based reports.
Fields to include:
Note that write‑in text does not appear in the standard designation column. That column only shows the selected predefined fund. If a donor uses a write‑in box, their custom text appears solely in the write‑in columns.
For multi‑split gifts, if a donor provides write‑in text on more than one split, the additional text appears in designation_writein2. Be sure to include both columns when expecting split gifts with donor-entered funds.
