Creating Incremental Challenges (Per Donor Unlocking)

Incremental challenges, also known as per-donor challenges, unlock match dollars each time a defined number of qualifying donors give. This rewards participation and builds momentum—for example, unlocking funds for every 10 donors.

How per-donor challenges work

• Set the challenge type to 'Donors.'

• I will give — the total amount the sponsor commits to the challenge.

• If the campaign gets another — the number of qualifying donors required to trigger the challenge.

The challenge form includes a checkbox labeled "If my challenge is not completely met, I will still give the full amount" that is checked by default. If selected, the sponsor pays the full committed amount even if the donor threshold isn’t reached. Sponsors can uncheck the box if they prefer to contribute only when the threshold is met.

Targeting donors

By default, a per-donor challenge counts gifts from all donors. Use the targeting options on the challenge form to narrow the count to a specific group:

• Affiliation — Count only donors with a specific affiliation (for example, Alumni).

• Class Year — Count only donors from selected class years.

• Designation — Count only donors who contribute to a specific fund or designation when this option is enabled.

• A Group of Friends — Count only donations from specified email addresses.

• Recurring Donors — Count only donors who set up recurring gifts in campaigns that support them.

Targeting options that are not configured for your campaign will not appear on the form.
