Understanding Leaderboard Percentage Calculations

If leaderboard percentages appear incorrect, the first step is to check the denominator. On GiveCampus, percentage calculations differ between manual leaderboards and affiliation breakdowns. The following sections explain each method and how to resolve common issues.

manual leaderboards: custom denominators

Manual leaderboards use a goal value that you set as the denominator for each row.

Example: A row with a goal of 250 and 75 donors
Tip: If percentages are too high or too low, check that the goal values are correct.

adjusting the denominator for a manual leaderboard

Affiliation breakdowns use ceiling rounding. For example, if the calculation yields 12.0%, it displays as 12%; if it yields 12.1%, it displays as 13%.

Click Modify on the specific leaderboard.
In the admin area, go to Online Giving > Campaign Motivation And Sharing and select your campaign's leaderboard settings.
For manual leaderboards, a calculated percentage of (75 / 250) × 100 equals 30.0%. The value is displayed to one decimal place.

Note: When configuring a custom leaderboard, you can choose Automatically Computed for Goal Calculation. This option divides the campaign’s overall goal evenly across all leaderboard rows, eliminating the need to enter a goal for each row individually.

Update the Goal field for each row as needed.
Save your changes.

Note: The Goal field serves as the denominator for manual leaderboard calculations.

affiliation breakdowns: automatic denominators

For affiliation breakdowns, percentages are calculated automatically using the total number of campaign donors. The denominator cannot be changed.

Example: With 1,000 total campaign donors and 120 parents, the percentage is calculated as (120 / 1,000) × 100

troubleshooting

If parent percentages appear off on the campaign page:
- For manual leaderboards, verify the Goal for the row, as it determines the denominator.
- For affiliation breakdowns, the denominator is the total number of donors and cannot be edited.
If you need to track progress toward a target for an affiliation, use a manual leaderboard where you can set a custom denominator.
