Reopening and Extending Closed Campaigns
If your campaign has ended but you need to extend it or reopen it for additional gifts, you can manage this through your campaign settings.
How to Reopen a Closed Campaign
Using the Back to Draft Feature
For campaigns that have recently ended, you can move them back to draft status and republish:
- Go to your campaign settings.
- Locate the "Back to Draft" button in the upper right corner of the campaign management page.
- Click "Back to Draft" and confirm the action in the popup dialog.
- Update your end date to extend the campaign period.
- Click "Publish" to make the campaign live again with the new end date.
Temporarily relaunch a completed campaign for screenshots or brief previews
If you need to briefly relaunch a completed campaign to capture screenshots or preview the live page, use the Back to Draft workflow with a short donation window.
- Open the campaign in admin and click Back to Draft on the main campaign management page.
- Update the End Date to about one hour in the future to limit the donation period.
- Click Publish to relaunch the campaign and capture your screenshots or preview the live page.
- Once finished, return to the campaign management page and click Back to Draft to remove the live page and prevent unintended donations.
Notes:
- The Back to Draft button appears only on the main campaign management page, not on sub-pages like Basics.
- All gifts, totals, matches, and challenges remain intact when moving a campaign back to draft and republishing.
- Relaunching the campaign briefly minimizes the risk of additional donations while you capture the necessary visuals.
Extending an Active Campaign
If your campaign is still running but you want to extend the deadline:
- Go to Campaign Settings.
- Navigate to Campaign Setup > Basics.
- Update the End Date field to your new deadline.
- Click "Update Campaign" to save your changes.
Note: Changes to the end date are immediately reflected on your campaign page.
Important Considerations
Campaign Data Preservation
- All gifts, matches, and challenges remain intact when reopening.
- Donor data and reporting are preserved.
- Campaign totals and progress continue from where they left off.
URL and Link Management
- Campaign URLs remain the same when reopening.
- Any shared links continue to work normally.
- QR codes and tracking links maintain their functionality.
Match and Challenge Behavior
- Active matches and challenges resume normal operation.
- Completed matches and challenges remain completed.
- Time-sensitive matches and challenges may need their dates adjusted.
-
Matches and Challenges set to end with the previous campaign end time will be extended to the new end time. Matches and Challenges set to end more than an hour before the previous end time will retain their old end time.
After your campaign ends: where to find it and what you can do
Campaigns remain accessible in the backend once they end. Completed campaigns appear under the "completed" tab in campaign settings.
Planning an extension before the end time
If you plan to extend your campaign before the current deadline:
- Update the end date in your campaign settings.
- (Optional) Hide the countdown timer if you prefer not to display it during an extended period.
- Review any schedule-sensitive content or homepage modules coordinated for the original deadline.
Finding and reopening a just‑ended campaign
If your campaign has ended, locate it in the "completed" tab of your campaign settings. From there, you can open the campaign, review its settings, and, if needed, use the standard reopening flow described above.
Match and challenge extension behavior
Matches and challenges with an end time less than one hour before the previous deadline will extend to the new end date, while those with an end time more than one hour earlier will retain their original end time.
Troubleshooting
"Back to Draft" Button Not Visible
- Verify that you have the appropriate administrator permissions.
- For very old campaigns, the process may differ.
Campaign Won't Publish After Reopening
- Ensure all required fields are completed.
- Confirm that the end date is set to a future date.
- Check that any linked forms or pages are configured correctly.
Match and Challenge end‑date details and how to extend them
When you extend or reopen a campaign, only matches and challenges ending within one hour of the original end time automatically update to the new deadline. Those ending more than one hour earlier keep their original timing until manually changed.
Automatic extension
• Matches and challenges ending within one hour before the original end time are considered time‑adjacent and automatically extend to the new end time. • Items ending more than one hour before the original campaign end remain unchanged unless updated manually.
Manually updating online matches and challenges
- Open the desired campaign.
- Navigate to Campaigns > [Campaign Name] > Motivation and Sharing > Matches and Challenges.
- Click the edit control (pencil icon or Edit link) for the match or challenge you want to update.
- Update the end date and time to the new deadline.
- Save your changes.
Extending offline matches
Offline matches use the same process as online matches. Open the campaign, go to Motivation and Sharing > Matches and Challenges, locate the offline match, click the edit control, and update the end date and time.
Additional notes
• Unfulfilled matches that don’t meet the one‑hour rule must be updated manually to continue past the original campaign period. • Completed matches and challenges remain completed; changing the end date does not reopen them. • For multiple updates, repeat these steps for each match or challenge.
