Multi-Step and Stepped Challenge Limitations
Challenge Design Limitations
GiveCampus challenges work with single unlock criteria — each challenge can only have one trigger point. You cannot create a single challenge that unlocks money at multiple intervals.
What is NOT possible:
A challenge that gives $1,000 for every 5 donors (5, 10, 15, 20, etc.)
Progressive unlocks within one challenge
Stepped rewards that automatically scale
Workaround: Create Multiple Challenges
To achieve a stepped challenge effect, set up multiple individual challenges that work together.
Example: "$1,000 for every 5 donors up to 25 donors"
Challenge 1: $1,000 for 5 donors
Challenge 2: $1,000 for 10 donors
Challenge 3: $1,000 for 15 donors
Challenge 4: $1,000 for 20 donors
Challenge 5: $1,000 for 25 donors
How This Works
When all challenges are active simultaneously, each donor counts toward ALL active challenges
Challenges unlock sequentially as goals are met
Each challenge requires separate setup in Campaign Settings → Motivation & Sharing → Matches & Challenges
Setup Requirements
Use the same targeting criteria (designation, affiliation, etc.) for all related challenges
Start all challenges at the same time
Consider the total financial commitment across all challenges
Alternative Approaches
Single larger challenge: Instead of 5 × $1,000, create one $5000 challenge for 25 donors
Milestone celebrations: Use campaign updates to celebrate interim achievements without stepped funding
Matches instead: Consider per-donor matches ($40 per donor up to 25 donors = $1,000) for similar motivation
