What is Double the Donation?
Double the Donation is a corporate gift matching service that helps donors discover whether their employer will match their charitable gift. When integrated with GiveCampus, it adds a matching gift search tool directly to your giving experience—prompting donors to check their eligibility and potentially double (or triple) their impact.
Note: The Input Label and Input Placeholder fields appear only after your subscription status is confirmed as active. If you don’t see them, complete the Public Key verification first.
How it works on GiveCampus
When enabled, a Double the Donation search widget appears in on the prepayment form and the post-payment form—after a donor completes their gift. The donor types their employer's name and instantly sees:
- Whether their company offers a matching gift program
- The match ratio (1:1, 2:1, etc.)
- Minimum and maximum eligible gift amounts
- A direct link to their employer's matching gift submission form
The donor can initiate the match request right after giving, while their generosity is top of mind.
Setting up Double the Donation
- Enter your Double the Donation API key.
You can enable or disable the widget on individual forms and campaigns under Giving Experience > Form Settings & Display, in the Corporate Matching Gifts section.
ou have pasted the public key (not a private or partner key) and that there are no extra spaces. Paste it again and click Save Changes.FAQ — school‑level activation vs. per‑form enablement
Q: If I paste my Double the Donation key at the school level, does the widget automatically appear on every form and campaign?
A: No. Pasting your Public Key under Online Giving > School-Level Settings > Company Matching and clicking Save Changes activates the integration at the school level. The widget will only appear on a form or campaign if the per-project toggle is also enabled. Each form and campaign has its own setting to show or hide the company search widget.
Where to enable or disable the widget per project:
- For giving forms and campaigns: go to Giving Experience > Form Settings & Display, locate the Corporate Matching Gifts section, and check the Enable "Double the Donation" company search field box.
Note: After you click Save Changes on the Public Key, the system verifies the key with Double the Donation and updates your subscription status. Once active, the Public Key field becomes read-only.
What donors see
After completing a gift, donors see a prompt: Does your employer match gifts? They type their company name, get instant results, and can click through to their employer's matching gift portal without leaving your page.
Tracking matching gifts
Double the Donation provides its own dashboard where you can track:
- How many donors searched for their employer
- How many match-eligible employers were identified
- Status of matching gift submissions
- Estimated and confirmed matching gift revenue
This data helps you follow up with donors who are eligible but haven't submitted their paperwork yet.
Best practices
- Promote it in your outreach. Mention matching gifts in campaign emails and social posts.
- Include it in confirmation emails. Remind donors about matching gifts with a link back to the search tool.
- Follow up. Use reporting to identify match-eligible donors who haven't submitted. A simple follow-up email can unlock significant revenue.
- Train your team. Make sure staff understand corporate matching so they can answer donor questions confidently.
FAQ — pre-filling the company-search field
Q: Can I pre-populate the Double the Donation company-search field via a URL parameter?
A: No. There is no supported URL parameter to prefill the company-search field. The widget is designed as an interactive search interface that requires users to type or paste their employer name.
FAQ — double the donation and the campaign backup form
Q: What is the Campaign Backup Form and why isn’t Double the Donation available on it?
A: The Campaign Backup Form is a fallback destination for donors visiting an inactive or draft giving form. It does not support every per-form option. The Double the Donation company-search widget is enabled via a per-form checkbox (Enable "Double the Donation" Company Search Field) that only appears in regular Giving Forms, so the widget cannot be activated on the Campaign Backup Form.
Q: Why doesn’t the widget display even after I enable Double the Donation at the school level?
A: The widget displays only when both of the following conditions are met:
- Your school’s Double the Donation subscription is active (verified by pasting your Public Key in Online Giving > School-Level Settings > Company Matching and clicking Save Changes).
- The per-form toggle is enabled (check the Enable "Double the Donation" Company Search Field checkbox in Giving Experience > Form Settings & Display for the specific form).
Because the Campaign Backup Form lacks the per-form checkbox, the widget will not appear regardless of school-level activation.
Q: My school-wide giving page points to the Campaign Backup Form, but I need to use Double the Donation. What should I do?
A: Only regular Giving Forms support the widget. If your default giving link points to the Campaign Backup Form, update it to direct donors to a regular Giving Form. Then, enable the widget on that form after completing the school-level Public Key verification.
Where to find these settings
- School-level activation (Public Key): Go to Online Giving > School-Level Settings > Company Matching, paste your Double the Donation Public Key, and click Save Changes.
- Per-form toggle: Open the desired giving form in the admin, then go to Giving Experience > Form Settings & Display and check the Enable "Double the Donation" Company Search Field box under the Corporate Matching Gifts section.
Customizing the company-search label and placeholder
Once your Double the Donation subscription is active, you can customize the accompanying text. Under Online Giving > School-Level Settings > Company Matching, use the Input Label field to change the text above the input (for example, “Company”) and the Input Placeholder field to modify the hint text inside the input (for example, “Search for company…”). These changes will be reflected across all forms and campaigns where the widget is enabled.
