How to Disable Volunteer Assignment Notifications
To disable assignment notifications for your volunteers while you make mass assignment changes in the Volunteer Management System, navigate to Settings → General in the Volunteer Management portal and select the option "Disable VMS System Notification Emails to Volunteers" then click 'Save Settings' at the bottom of the page.
To re-enable notifications, simply deselect the option and save.
What This Setting Controls
This setting disables system notifications for your volunteers, including:
- Assignment change notifications
- Test emails that volunteers send to themselves
- All other system-generated VMS notification emails
- Before running scheduled bulk operations—such as mass deactivations or unpairings—administrators can check the "Disable VMS System Notification Emails to Volunteers" box so that the system doesn’t send an individual notification for every record.
- After the operation completes, simply uncheck the box and click 'Save Settings' to restore normal notifications.
- This is a self-service setting controlled by VMS administrators in the UI—no support request is needed.
- The setting disables all system-generated notifications listed above; it does not affect emails composed and sent by volunteers directly to constituents.
- Go to Settings → General in the VMS administrator dashboard.
- Alternatively, use the direct URL:
https://www.givecampus.com/vms/[SCHOOLNAME]/admin/settings - Locate the checkbox labeled "Disable VMS System Notification Emails to Volunteers", then click 'Save Settings' after making your selection.
Important: This does NOT disable emails that your volunteers send to constituents.
Troubleshooting:
Why isn't my volunteer receiving test emails?
Test emails are considered system notifications. If you have system notifications disabled, volunteers won't receive test emails when they try to send them to themselves. Re-enable notifications or let volunteers know this is temporary.
Why are volunteers still receiving some emails?
Volunteers will continue to receive:
- Emails they send to constituents (these aren't system notifications)
- Emails sent directly through other GiveCampus tools
- Manual emails sent by administrators outside the VMS
