Learn how to maximize the impact of your event landing page to drive both registration and attendance.
Images and Overlay
On the Event Settings > Details page, you have a number of settings available to configure the landing page to best meet your needs for each event.
Background Image (optional)
We strongly recommend uploading a background image to give your landing page an extra splash. For best results, use an image size of 1920 × 800 pixels. Avoid images with text and beware of images with faces as they may be covered by your text, buttons, or event image. Note, alt text is required for accessibility.
💡 Tip: Sites like Unsplash have many 'textural' images that work well to complement Events posters.
Background Overlay & Text Color (required)
The overlay color will appear over your background image to ensure text readability. Choose colors that provide good contrast with your text.
Adding images inside the event description
You can upload images directly in the event description using the rich text editor. To add an image:
- Open the event and click Edit Event.
- Go to Event Settings > Details and locate the Event Description field.
- Click the image button in the editor toolbar and select a file to upload.
- The image is inserted inline where your cursor was placed.
Quick facts and tips:
- The field label is Event Description and is located under Event Settings > Details.
- The editor supports rich text formatting, including images, text styling, and links.
- Uploaded images appear inline, allowing you to combine them with text, lists, and links.
- Use the preview feature to verify image placement and spacing before saving your event.
Inserting images directly into the description is a simple way to add visual elements such as posters or charts alongside your event text.
Ticket Pricing Display
How to hide ticket pricing on the landing page
If you want to remove the "Tickets starting at $X" text from your event's main page:
This will prevent the ticket price from displaying on the event landing page while still showing pricing during the registration process.
Button Colors and Branding
Event page button colors
The colors of CTA buttons (like "Register Now" or "Join Giving Day") follow your overall school branding settings. These cannot be changed at the individual event level.
How to modify button colors
Tab colors (Details, Schedule, Guest List)
The colors of navigation tabs on event pages also follow your school branding and cannot be customized at the event level.
Countdown Timer
Registration countdown during checkout
When users begin registering for an event, they will see a countdown timer during the checkout process. This timer:
- Reserves their spot while they complete registration
- Prevents overselling when multiple people register simultaneously
- Currently cannot be disabled or customized
- Is designed to ensure fair access to limited tickets
Note: The countdown timer during registration cannot be removed at this time. This is a built-in feature to manage inventory and prevent registration conflicts.
Q: My Event Image clashes with the Background Image — can I remove or adjust it?
A: No, the Event Image in Event Settings > Details is required and cannot be removed once uploaded. If it clashes with your Background Image, try one of these options:
-
Replace the Event Image
- Open your event and click Edit Event → Event Settings > Details.
- In the Event Image section, upload a new image that complements your background. For best results, use an image with an aspect ratio similar to the resized 800 × 600 px display.
- Save your changes.
-
Remove the Background Image
- Since the Background Image is optional, check the Remove Background Image checkbox in Event Settings > Details to use only the Event Image and overlay.
-
Adjust the Background Overlay and text color
- On the same Event Settings > Details page, tweak the Overlay Opacity, Overlay Color, and Text Color to reduce the visual conflict between the two images.
Tips:
- Preview your changes on both desktop and mobile to ensure text and buttons remain clear.
- Choose background images without prominent faces or large text, as these may be obscured by overlays and buttons.
- Use the 800 × 600 px guideline to crop or design Event Images for a clean appearance.
Troubleshooting broken event images
If your Event Image or Social Media Share Image appears as a broken icon—even on draft events—re-uploading the file usually resolves the issue.
What to check and why re-uploading works
- Location in the UI: Open the event from the event grid and click Edit Event → Event Settings > Details to locate the Event Image and Social Media Share Image fields.
- File issues: If the original upload was incomplete or the file became corrupted, re-uploading creates a fresh copy and fixes the broken link.
- Image processing: The Event Image is resized to 800 × 600 pixels. The Social Media Share Image is automatically resized for various platforms (Facebook and Twitter) so re-uploading regenerates these versions.
- Social media previews: The Social Media Share Image appears when the event URL is shared, ensuring previews display correctly once updated.
- Accepted formats: For best results, use JPG, JPEG, GIF, or PNG.
Re-uploading a broken event image
- From the event grid, click the event name and then click Edit Event in the upper right.
- Go to Event Settings > Details.
- Locate the affected field (Event Image or Social Media Share Image).
- For the Event Image: Upload a new copy that fits the 800 × 600 px guideline.
- For the Social Media Share Image: Upload a new file to regenerate the social media previews.
- Save your changes and preview the landing page.
Extra tips
- If the image appears correctly in the editor but still shows as broken in preview, re-upload the same file to force reprocessing.
- Confirm the fix by previewing on both desktop and mobile.
- If re-uploading doesn’t work, try re-exporting the image from your editor before uploading a new file.
Multi-day Event Display
Silent Auction: direct link from the landing page

- Speeds up navigation to the catalog, enhancing the auction experience and encouraging participation.
How it works
- Open the event landing page for an event with a silent auction.
- Click the "Silent Auction" section title near the auction preview.
- The full silent auction catalog opens, allowing attendees to browse and bid on items.
Notes for event organizers

Troubleshooting Text Editor Issues
Strikethrough text appearing unexpectedly
If you notice strikethrough formatting randomly appearing in your event descriptions or other text sections, this is typically caused by copying and pasting text from word processors like Microsoft Word.
Quick fix for strikethrough issues:
1. Copy all the affected text
2. Open a plain text editor (Notepad on PC or TextEdit on Mac)
3. Convert the document to plain text format
4. Paste your content into the text editor
5. Delete everything in the GiveCampus editor
6. Copy the plain text and paste it back into GiveCampus
7. Reformat the text using only the GiveCampus editor tools
Why this happens:
Applications like Microsoft Word include hidden proprietary formatting code when you copy text. This hidden formatting can conflict with GiveCampus's text editor, causing unexpected behaviors like random strikethroughs.
Prevention tips:
- Always paste text as plain text first, then format within GiveCampus
- Use the GiveCampus editor's formatting tools rather than copying pre-formatted text
- If text editor buttons aren't working properly, try refreshing the page and re-entering content
Common text editor glitches and solutions
- Text color button not working: Try clicking it a second time or refresh the page
- Font size changing unexpectedly: Clear formatting and reapply using GiveCampus tools only
- Buttons not responding: Save your work, refresh the page, and try again
- Preview doesn't match editor: Some spacing and formatting may render differently in preview - use preview mode to make final adjustments
Common variations of this question
- "Why does my event description have strikethrough text?"
- "Text editor is glitchy and adding random formatting"
- "How do I remove strikethrough from my event page?"
- "Event description formatting looks different in preview"
