Update (6/16/2025)
Heroku has posted an update about the incident here: https://www.heroku.com/blog/summary-of-june-10-outage/
Update (6/11/2025 - 12:30AM EDT)
Our ongoing monitoring indicates that all services were restored to normal operation around 6pm ET. Salesforce/Heroku continues to make progress on addressing this incident, and we have not seen any indications or received any reports that it continues to impact any users’ ability to access or use any parts of the GiveCampus platform.
Here is our latest assessment of the impact of this event and some of the related mitigation steps that have been or are being taken:
-
Gifts: A majority of users that attempted to make donations via GiveCampus were able to do so successfully. More specifically:
- 87.9% of donor interactions with GiveCampus (e.g., loading a giving page or submitting a giving form) were successful.
- Recurring gifts processed successfully throughout the day.
- Additionally, any donors who entered their names during checkout but were unable to make a gift due to an error or slowdown would appear in your Should-Be donor reporting.
- Event Registrations: A majority of users that attempted to register for events via GiveCampus were able to do so successfully. Some institutions saw individual constituents abandon their registrations without completing them and we will provide each impacted school with a report of abandoned registrations by the end of the day on Wednesday, June 12. (Note: While not all abandoned registrations are due to service issues, we will give you the information you need in case you would like to contact these constituents.)
- Email / Text: All emails and text messages were sent throughout the day; there were intermittent delays in sending certain messages for certain schools.
- GC Gift Officer: GC Gift Officer users experienced intermittent disruptions to their ability to access the platform; by approximately 6pm ET all access for gift officers had been fully restored. Any contact reports or plan / opportunity updates submitted will be synced to the institution’s CRM overnight as usual.
- Volunteer Management: All access for volunteers is restored, emails are fully functional, historical emails were sent, and data reports were generated.
- Data Importer: For any schools whose data sync was impacted through the School-Level Data Importer, our Partner Operations team will reach out to you directly to communicate any next steps (fewer than 15 schools impacted).
- API Access: All API endpoints are fully functional.
Update (6/10/2025 - 7:18PM EDT)
Salesforce has reported progress on fixing the issue, and GiveCampus engineering teams show system performance is restored at normal levels. We will provide another email update and post on this page once we have full confirmation from Salesforce that the issue is completely resolved.
Update (6/10/2025 - 6:13PM EDT)
- The Salesforce/Heroku intermittent outages continue to impact some users’ ability to access and use parts of the GiveCampus platform. Salesforce reports that they “are observing positive results in initial testing on pre-production environments” and that they “continue to see incremental improvements.”
- A majority of users attempting to make donations and/or register for events via GiveCampus today have been able to do so successfully.
- We are working to develop an emergency (temporary) solution that would make GiveCampus fully operational for all donor- and admin-facing functions. Our aim is to have this solution ready to deploy tomorrow in the event Salesforce is still experiencing intermittent outages.
We will provide the next update by tomorrow morning at 8am ET.
Impact (as of 06/10/2025 - 2:45PM EDT)
Heroku, a subsidiary of Salesforce and one of our upstream infrastructure providers, is currently experiencing intermittent outages. These outages are disrupting some users’ (including donors’) ability to access and use GiveCampus. We are carefully monitoring this situation for updates and working to minimize the impact on our platform.
We do not yet have an estimated time of resolution. We continue to explore alternative methods for returning to full platform performance, and we will provide a comprehensive update (both what happened and how we will prevent a similar incident in the future) soon after the outage is resolved.
The following reflects our best understanding of how the current outage affects GiveCampus and its critical systems. If you have additional questions or would like to receive future updates regarding this issue, please write to support@givecampus.com
GC Online Giving
-
Donors can generally access giving pages and make gifts; the vast majority of donations are able to be completed. Thousands of gifts have successfully been processed on the platform today, at a rate consistent with our daily giving patterns.
- Some donors may see errors through the donation process
- If a donor received an error during the checkout process and did not make a gift, they will appear in your should-be donors list as long as they entered their information or were already logged in.
- Recurring gift installments are not affected; there may be delays in gifts showing up in the relevant dashboards or delays in donors receiving gift receipts
- Login for both donors and admins may show errors; refreshing or retrying may be successful.
GC Events
- We have seen hundreds of constituents successfully register for events today; some registrants may have seen an error message.
- Once the incident is resolved, GiveCampus will provide a list by school of constituents who abandoned the registration flow. If your school did not have any constituents impacted, you will not hear from GiveCampus in a 1:1 fashion.
GC Volunteer Management
- Users that were logged in have largely been able to retain access but those that were not have had intermittent access to log in.
- File imports into VM are experiencing some delays but are eventually going through.
- Most other file uploads have been successful in the last 12 hours, though we will communicate to any that failed
- Emails from volunteers to constituents in the past 12 hours have been processed successfully.
- Daily SFTP reports will be sent today but may be delayed
GC Gift Officer
- Gift Officers may have issues logging into GC Gift Officer or experience longer than normal page load times
- There may be delays in syncing information (contact reports, tasks, plans, opportunities) between your CRM and GC GO
GC Outreach Email
- All emails initiated today have successfully been sent; some may experience small delays, and we have a manual process in place to ensure emails send
- You may experience issues creating or editing draft / templates; in this case, try to refresh or reload the page
GC Outreach Texting
- All text messages initiated today have successfully been sent; some may experience small delays, and we have a manual process in place to ensure texts send
- You may experience issues creating or editing draft / template issues; in this case, try to refresh or reload the page
Data Import
- GiveCampus APIs may flash errors that are due to the outage
- Files sent for import into the Data Importer may be delayed, but will process once resolved.
- Reports such as daily donation exports may be delayed, but will generate once resolved.
