Searching for Constituents and Selecting Assignments

Searching and selecting assignments as a volunteer.

Searching for Constituents

Through GiveCampus Volunteer Management, volunteers are able to search for and select assignments. Which constituents a volunteers is able to search for is determined by their specified role(s).

To search for assignments, volunteers should click “Search Constituents” in the navigation menu on the left side of the page.

Search uses name by default, but will use other criteria (current location, class year, activity, etc.) the box "Use Advanced Search" is checked.

Checking the Advanced Search box allows volunteers to search by other fields, such as location, activities, and class year.

The Activities column in the constituent search results displays every activity linked to each constituent, including those that have started or ended. The activity descriptions are shown as a comma-separated list.

Tip: To filter results by a specific activity, use the Advanced Search option and select Activities as a search field.

Search returns any results that match any words in your search.  For example, if you search for “Dan Stevens” your results will include everyone named Dan, everyone named Stevens, everyone named Danielle, everyone named Stevenson, everyone named Aidan, and so on. You may find last name a more efficient means of search.  

Selecting Assignments

Once the volunteer has found the constituent they wish to select, depending on your GC VM settings for that role, they may either automatically assign themselves or request assignment. There are three options that may appear when selecting an assignment:

1. Auto-Assign Confirmation - If enabled in the role settings, volunteers may assign themselves to any constituent that they can search. They simply click a button that says "Assign to Me" and confirm.

3. Request with comment - If enabled in the role settings, volunteers must provide a comment about their relationship with the desired assignment. The volunteer will not be paired with an assignment until their Staff Liaison / Handler approves this pairing. When enabled, the button say "Request Assignment."
   
   
   
   

4. Request with rating - If enabled in the role settings, volunteers must provide a rating (on a scale of 1 to 5) about their relationship with the desired assignment. The volunteer will not be paired with an assignment until their Staff Liaison / Handler approves this pairing. When enabled, the button say "Request Assignment."
   
   

Note: A role can be configured such that the volunteer must provide both a comment and a rating. Learn more about configuring roles to define what a volunteer can see and do.
