Will Venmo gifts be different from PayPal gifts in reporting?

Venmo gifts will appear with a “card_type” of “Venmo” in your reporting. All other aspects of the reporting and deposits will be the same. PayPal and Venmo gifts will be deposited as part of the same deposit.

How do I see which gifts were made via Venmo?

You can see a breakdown of payment options in the Statistics tab, but also you will see “Venmo” as the “card_type” in your donation reports to see it on a donation by donation basis. 

Why is Venmo not showing up when making a gift?

If on a mobile device, the donor will want to make sure their default browser is set to the device’s native browser - and use that browser when making their gift through Venmo.

If they are on their mobile device and it still is not showing up, the user is likely accessing the form on a non-native browser. **Why scanning a QR code or opening a link from an email or message can hide Venmo (and how to fix it)** - Venmo appears only when donors open the giving form in the device’s native browser—Safari on iOS or Chrome on Android. It will not show in in‑app or embedded browsers. - QR codes scanned from within another app (for instance, Gmail, Outlook, messaging, or social apps) typically open links in that app’s built‑in browser, which suppresses the Venmo option. - Even if the donor accesses the form via a link saved in an email, note, or social app preview, the link may still open in an in‑app browser, resulting in the Venmo option being hidden. **How to ensure Venmo appears (clear steps for donors)** 1. Open the form in the native browser: - Copy the form URL and paste it into Safari (iOS) or Chrome (Android). 2. Scan the QR code using the device’s Camera app: - Point the Camera at the QR code and tap the notification to open the URL in the native browser. 3. If the link opens in an app, use the app’s “Open in browser” option or manually copy and paste the URL into the native browser. **Other checks** - Ensure the Venmo mobile app is installed and up to date; an outdated version can prevent the option from appearing. - This limitation is mobile-only—Venmo is not available on desktop or laptop computers regardless of browser. ---

On iOS (iPhone or iPad), Venmo appears only in Safari. Chrome for iOS, Facebook, Instagram, the Google Search app, and other in‑app browsers on iOS will not show the Venmo option.

On Android, Venmo requires Google Chrome. Samsung Browser, Microsoft Edge, and in‑app browsers (e.g., Facebook or Instagram) on Android will not show the Venmo option.

Can donors use Venmo for recurring gifts?

No — Venmo (and PayPal) is available for one‑time gifts only. When a donor selects a recurring gift option on the giving form, the Venmo and PayPal buttons are automatically hidden, and the donor must complete the gift using a credit/debit card or another supported payment method.

 

Why is the Venmo gift not going through?

If the user is utilizing the native browser on their mobile device and still running into issues witth the Venmo payment option, it could be that the user does not have the latest version of Venmo installed on their phones. The version of Venmo that supports the type of Venmo integration we’re using has been out since early February 2021, but users who irregularly update the apps on their phone and are using an older version may not have the expected experience.  

What happens if a donor selects Venmo, but does not have the Venmo app?

If a user attempts to pay with Venmo, but does not have the Venmo app on their device, they will be prompted to make their payment via PayPal.
