One may think of GIFs as just a fun internet trend, however, we’re going to show you how to not only create your own GIFs, but also how to leverage them for training and communication purposes to enhance your donor and volunteer experiences. 

So, what exactly is a GIF? In simplest terms, a GIF (Graphics Interchange Format) is a short, looping, animated image. GIFs can be charming, interesting, and exciting ways to share your mission or provide a visual that conveys your specific message to your donor community. GIFs can help you connect with your supporters, encourage sharing on social media, and take your brand to the next level. While there are an array of options you can copy and paste from the Internet, customizing your own GIFs can add a fun and personalized touch to your next campaign or volunteer training materials.

How to Make Your Own GIF: Step-by-Step Instructions

Creating a GIF is a fun way to share a short, looping animation or video clip. Follow these steps to make a GIF using an online tool, video editing software, or a mobile app.

Method 1: Using an Online GIF Maker

1. Choose a GIF Maker:
   • Visit a website like GIPHY, Imgur, or Ezgif
2. Upload Your Media:
   • Click on the "Upload" or "Choose File" button to upload a video file or select images you want to convert into a GIF.
   • Most platforms allow you to upload files directly from your computer or paste a URL from YouTube or another site.
3. Edit:
   • Trim the Video: If you uploaded a video, trim it to the specific segment you want as a GIF.
   • Add Captions: Most tools let you add text or captions to your GIF.
   • Adjust Settings: Customize the frame rate, speed, and looping options.

2. Celebratory/Thank You Message: Reached your campaign goal or want to send a fun thank-you to your donors? Embed a GIF in your About section, email, or social media post to add to the excitement! Check out GIPHY to find endless examples. 

3. Branding: Level up your communications by swapping out a plain old logo for a branded GIF that represents your school! Don't be afraid to reach out to other departments (Communications, Marketing, etc...) on campus for help on this one, if needed.
