Personal videos are a great way for your advocates to tell their own story of why they value your institution and are choosing to give back. Whether a short and sweet selfie video, a promo of an athletic team, or shot of a toddler saying “it’s giving day!” personal videos come in all shapes and sizes and help bring energy and authenticity to your campaign.
While you can expect that the vast majority of videos that are submitted to your institution will be light-hearted and G-rated, we require that school administrators first watch and approve all personal video submissions before they go live on your page. This way, you can ensure that this user-generated content aligns with your institution’s standards and values,
Once a personal video is submitted, all school administrators with personal video notifications enabled from the ‘Administrators’ tab of your administrator dashboard will receive an email notifying them that a new personal video is ready for review. (You will want to ensure your IT team has whitelisted all GiveCampus emails so that these do not end up in spam - see this article for email whitelisting details). From the sidebar of each campaign dashboard, administrators will also see how many videos are pending approval.
Once you click into Personal Videos (view all from within campaign settings > Advocacy > Personal Videos), you will be able to view any Active, Pending, Rejected, or Deleted videos. When a new video is submitted, it will appear in the Pending section. Before the video goes live, you will need to watch the video from start to finish to make sure that it is appropriate to share on the campaign page.
If you deem the video to be appropriate, click “Approve”. When you approve a video, it will go live on the campaign page under the ‘Advocates’ tab and also will be viewable under the Active video tab.
On the off chance that the video is inappropriate, click “Reject”. If a personal video is rejected, the video will appear under the ‘Rejected’ section and the user who submitted the video will be blocked from submitting another video. That being said, if you would like to provide the individual with an opportunity to re-submit a video that is more in line with your institution’s mission and values, we recommend you reach out to them directly, share the reasons their video was rejected, and (if you feel comfortable) delete the video from the ‘Rejected’ tab so that they can re-submit.
Videos will appear under the ‘Deleted’ section for one of two reasons. First, as mentioned above, if a video is rejected and then deleted by a school admin, it will appear here. More commonly, a personal video will appear under ‘Deleted’ if the advocate who uploaded it chooses to delete it themselves. An advocate can delete their video by finding their name within the Advocates tab of the campaign, clicking on “Watch Personal Video” next to their name, and finally clicking “Remove your video from this campaign.” If an advocate opts to delete their personal video, they can always upload a new video, but a single advocate cannot have more than one active video at a time.
With these steps in hand, you will have the autonomy to manage the videos on your campaign, and ensure that all videos are reflective of your institution’s spirit, mission, and values.
