When a gift is in "pending authorization" it cannot be edited or refunded. Once the gift clears the donor's bank it will move to 'Authorized' then a refund can be issued.
Support and administrator actions while a gift is pending
GiveCampus support cannot refund or modify a transaction while it is in the pending authorization state. This restriction applies to both your school’s administrators and GiveCampus support staff; no one can change a gift until it moves to the authorized state.
Why this matters
Pending authorization is a temporary status while the donor’s bank or payment processor completes its checks. Once the transaction becomes authorized, the normal options to edit or refund the gift are available.
Handling an accidental gift
- If a donor reports an accidental gift that is still pending, wait until the gift becomes authorized before processing a refund.
- No one can process a refund while the transaction remains in pending authorization.
Quick summary
- Pending authorization transactions cannot be edited or refunded.
- Changes are available only after the transaction becomes authorized.
- The same restrictions apply to both administrators and GiveCampus support.
